Suqian, also called Shuicheng for short, or Xiaxiang, Suyu, Zhongwu, etc. in ancient times, is a prefecture level city under the jurisdiction of Jiangsu Province. Suqian is a typical water town in northern Jiangsu, surrounded by two major freshwater lakes, Luoma Lake and Hongze Lake, and numerous rivers such as the Grand Canal, the ancient Yellow River, and the Huai Shu Xin River. Emperor Qianlong stayed here five times during his six visits to Jiangnan, praising Suqian as the "first spring advantage of Jiangshan.".
